Freshwater Fishing
The waterways around the Snowy River have some of the best and most idyllic fishing spots in the country. Lake Jindabyne is a short five-minute walk from the centre, and the nearest boat ramp is only a two-minute drive down the road.
The lake has numerous shallow bays and wide waters for fishers to cast their lines, not to mention a Bond-esque mountain range backdrop to perfectly frame your catch-of-the-day pictures.
Learn about Aquaculture at the Gaden Trout Hatchery
The Gaden Trout Hatchery, located on the Thredbo River near Jindabyne, is one of Australia’s main centres for breeding and rearing cold water sport fish. The Hatchery breeds several species of trout, as well as Atlantic Salmon, for research and restocking purposes.
The Hatchery provides education programs, guided tours, and sometimes permits feeding of fish.
Guided tours of the hatchery are conducted 10am and 2pm daily. Generally, fishing is not permitted at the hatchery, although the Hatchery does host fishing days for kids.
